I just acquired a red ear slider turtle today.?
The lady at Petsmart ( I did not get the turtle from there) gave me two lights; a 50W Infrared Heat Glo and a 75W Daylight Spot Basking Lamp. My questions are:
1. How often do I use each light?
2. Does the time of day matter?
3. Does positioning make a difference with regards to these lights?

I turned my lights off at night. I left it on at morning...going on the schedule outside. I put my lights over where they bask. no real place to put them is best but at least 6-10 inches away from basking area. they are in direct heat in the wild bright sunshine that gets the shell hot...they go in water to cool and get back out to bask...touch the surface they bask in and see how hot it feels...if it burns you, it will be too close for them. if it is nice and warm and not almost cool..it's good. I also fed mine chicken cooked, veggies and fish...two filters for the tank...they are awful poopers and messy. like a little piggy in water. Good Luck!!!
